Curriculum

As with most creative instruction, I begin by having my students learn the dire basics of the guitar. Once a student of mine starts to feel comfortable with the instrument and advances past the beginning stages, I will have learned a lot about him or her. This is when my curriculum will become more personalized and specialized for each student, based on his or her individual interests, abilities, and goals.

Throughout our lessons, we will discuss and explore topics such as:

  • Developing good habits and strategies. (Posture, practice, concentration, reading, writing, communicating, ear training, and musical literacy.)
  • Learning to play in time.
  • Finger exercises. (Dexterity, coordination, stretching, strengthening, picking.)
  • Strumming and picking techniques.
  • Improvisation and “jamming.”
  • Playing along with backing tracks.
  • How to learn a song on your own through the use of a book, video, or website
  • “Playing with musical intent.”
  • Songwriting.
  • Learning to read in a variety of methods.

I take an incredible amount of pride in my work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to education. Throughout the years, I’ve seen many music teachers treat their private lessons far too casually. I put 100% into every lesson. Guaranteed. I promise to be prepared, punctual, flexible, and focused for every lesson. I will always go to extra lengths to make sure that my students are satisfied with their individual lessons and the overall lesson sequence.
